Entertainment stuff from the week 15-21/7/13

Hi, Beatles

I know, like the contributors to 'Private Eye', you have 'Eyes passim', but...

Here's a little (and true) story for you, told to me by last fortnight's Eye, the most marvelous 'dirty little rag' in the world.

Ernst & Young - an accountancy/consultancy/'professional services' company based in London, UK - has recently spent several million pounds on a clearly-much-needed rebranding.

That rebranding involved a change of name from 'Ernst & Young' to the "vastly superior" (as the Eye put it) 'EY'. I am inclined to agree :D

They spent a significant chunk of those millions on ensuring that "EY" would come at the top of any search in Google for those particular letters in immediate conjunction.

As you can see [click] they succeeded.

But what they did not foresee, and what the Eye took glee in revealing, is that that same term in Google Images returns some rather more interesting results...

You see, "EY" in Google Images [click] returns results for the magazine 'Electric Youth' - a magazine dedicated to, in the Eye's words "admiration of the naked male teen form".

"Ernst & Young - Quality In Everything We Do"... i'd say so! Hehe...

Who said accountancy was boring, indeed :D

------------------------------------------------------ contemporary stuff

'SURICATE - The Superheroes Hangover'
When you party as hard as a superhero, you can end up doing a lot more than just stealing a traffic cone!
http://youtu.be/OOWAUAWy7rs

'Caro Emerald - Liquid Lunch (Acoustic Version)'
I rate this higher than the album version, actually. Like :)
http://youtu.be/izvyESEF2Mg

'"Voices In My Head P3" Tales Of Mere Existence'
http://youtu.be/yWkh16AM_zA

'How to Become the British Monarch'
Can you believe there are people, even in Europe, who think this shash of a system should be perpetuated? It must be so embarrassing to be a human Rationalist...
http://youtu.be/BUY6HGqYweQ

'Sound waves levitate and mix floating drops of liquid'
This video's surprisingly fascinating :-D
http://youtu.be/sk_IN7x_p3g

'Cassetteboy VS Beauty Vloggers // Bad Teeth'
I never thought i'd say this, but... i want to see more of these beauty bloggers :-D
http://youtu.be/Bt_OzzOEVsw

'Wine Spa' - Ripley's
Well, this certainly looks like an expensive but of fun, but the pseudomedical claims are facile:
- green tea might be a little antioxidant, but cancer-treating it is not - cancers produce their own antioxidants to prevent their own death
- sake can do no more for your skin than alcohol-containing sanitizing soaps
- coffee contains no known dermic medicine, and draws your senses' attention only by being bitter and... smelly
- red wine-related claims have been debunked, including the resveratrol nonsense, because the quantities needed to get an amount that would matter, would kill you with alcohol poisoning first!

Chocolate bath, anyone? :)

'Behind the Scenes: FIAT Body Paint Shoot'
"Excuse me while i roll-paint your face", LOL
http://www.illegaladvertising.com/post/55678145201/car-of-naked-women
This looks great fun to be involved in :-)
I should mention that FIAT is ripping off the work of Emma Hack. She did this kind of thing for the 'Motor Accident Commission' of South Australia. I blogged it months ago.
{And a note to the WTA: These women are strong and beautiful, and there are no sequins involved! I just wanted to point that out.}

------------------------------------------------------ of the weeks

Word Of The Week: thixotropy -- where a fluid become less viscous (runnier) when stretched, shaken, or agitated

Headline Of The Week: 'Russians to deploy floating nuclear power plant'

Fact Of The Week: The Chinese once invented a weapon called the 'Orifices-penetrating Flying-sand Magic-mist Tube' which involved an early use for gunpowder

{We know what you mean, Kate - we know what you mean [nudge nudge, wink wink]}

------------------------------------------------------ non-contemporary stuff

A big thank you to Northern Vox for drawing my attention to this site. It really is hilarious, especially when read in a middle-English accent :-D
http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/index.html

Ugg... this used to happen to me all the time. I'd go out wearing my birthday suit; my fellow tapejaras would go out wearing their birthday suits; and all of us would be wearing exactly the same. How embarrassing is that! Gah...

'Stop Smoking!'
Look at all the stuff you could afford if you kicked your nicotine addiction. Annoying, huh.

'Girls Love Parkour!'

It looks like Suarezident Evil's got himself a job outside football:

“I knew my vast knowledge of [insert alternative here] would pay off for me one day.”
This is what all geeks are hoping they'll get to say, pretty much all of the time :-D
http://goldspandexleggings.tumblr.com/post/55079076642

Well... that's more explicit than i was expecting :-D
http://goldspandexleggings.tumblr.com/post/55079039248

Bwahahaha. And now i want a chance to say that line :-D :-D

I give you cartoonwarp. Cartoon comedy with a cartoon attitude:

'Gordon Brown - Elephant in the Room'
It might not be topical, and it might be provincial, but it sure is funny. If you don't know who any of the people on the panel are... they're all as cartoon as presented here ;-)
http://youtu.be/RYA0DsPcbaU

'David Starkey - Rude History'
http://youtu.be/xwcsbZrEeMA

'David Cameron - Big Society gaff'
{For those who need context: Gordon Brown had previously met a supporter with whom Labour Party policy disagreed. He forgot he was all miked up, and mumbled cantankerously at her unexpected questioning, in the car, as he left. In this case, the embarassment stems from the old woman being a bigot, and from Cameron agreeing; in Brown's she was not, and he disagreed. So now you know. Oh, and Nick Clegg's the guy who made a coalition with the Conservatives, so everybody blames him for everything that goes wrong.}
http://youtu.be/5GKke2wKO-U

'David Attenborough's - Primate Crisis'
{The characters have changed; the politics has not. Anglicans are still becoming RCs because it's more conservative; and the laity's still more bigoted than the bishops, in the Anglican Church. And David Attenborough has adapted perfectly to an environment of 3D monsters... like you'd expect.}
http://youtu.be/JTa0PdrrT4c

'Barcode Inventor Checks-Out'
A greater man than you would have thought... and no he didn't put the devil's number in barcodes - they're spaces.
http://youtu.be/v8vgTk4IcnM

'Death & Sex'
http://youtu.be/zk84j91Cmn4

'Awesome'
"Have you met someone like this? If you haven't, you probably are them."
{Who said that? And about what? ...everyone and everything!}
http://youtu.be/AZlqOb3V9bs

Music:

'The Darkness- English Country Garden Live at Rock in Rio (EDITED)'
I'd never seen this before. An interesting rendition of a 2nd album song :)
http://youtu.be/6eGMJm3LsXc

'The Darkness- Love is only a feeling (Behind the Scenes) HQ'
Scary place to film. They are rock stars, though - what are you gonna do? :)
http://youtu.be/OkvKnYxJElY

'The Darkness- is it just me (Official Video)'
I love this video so much. Richie in a dress is just delightful :-D :-D
http://youtu.be/lu2N8FJPYN0

'Save Me by Queen - Beautiful Freddie Mercury Interpretation HD'This is from the Rock Montreal gig. So now you know.
http://youtu.be/AeyY0NMewhc

'Queen Extravaganza made its debut on American Idol...'
{You'll need to turn the sound up for this one -- but boy is it worth it!}
http://youtu.be/VC7-lipYSdY

'Queen Extravaganza - Marc Martel "Bohemian Rhapsody"'
http://youtu.be/nA1ZNuQMvv0

Cool Science videos from the RSC:

'Floating Sinking Bubbles'
Because the film of a bubble is a permeable membrane, bubbles filled with hydrogen and carbon dioxide fall and then rise back up again!
http://youtu.be/9wo89Lr4wU4

'Fountain Experiment'
As the ammonia dissolves into the water, the pressure in the flask drops, causing atmospheric pressure to push water in, resulting in the fountain. When the ammonia has been sufficiently absorbed, the pressure equalises and the fountain stops.
http://youtu.be/X1BktOPsc7g

'Luminol fountain'
How about trying that again, but with luminous products?
http://youtu.be/qS6rGsUBync

'Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide'
Under different conditions, and with different catalysts, hydrogen peroxide decays to supply oxygen-containing foam at differing rates.
http://youtu.be/Ta4DomSDzF8

'Magic Drinks'
Different combinations of reactants produce solutions that look like various drinks. Don't drink them, though!
http://youtu.be/hY05kY8uH74

'Non-burning Note'
Paper or a five pound note burns in a flame, but not when soaked in water. Ethanol burns well, however, so what happens when a note soaked in water and ethanol is put in a flame?
http://youtu.be/L6KEyKvKS3k

'Reaction of Chlorine with Hydrogen'
Is the activation energy of this reaction really so low that a camera flash is all it takes to get it going? It looks like it!
http://youtu.be/DjbRH6bSIIw

'Reaction of Fluorine with Hydrogen'
Fluorine - the most reactive element on the Periodic Table - needs no activation energy at all to react with hydrogen!
http://youtu.be/d2zP4jxTL4s

'Ethyne and Flying Food Cans'
http://youtu.be/YQ_l2RpSgMs

'Sublime iodine'
Sublimation of iodine and solidification onto a surface above creates the most wonderful iodine crystals.
